MEET
Amanda Young
For years, I navigated life with coping mechanisms born from childhood experiences and relational trauma: dissociation, perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-abandonment, and hypervigilance. These strategies served as protective shields but ultimately took a toll on my nervous system and my body. Despite many years of therapy and marriage counseling, true healing remained elusive until I discovered the transformative power of somatic movement and internal sensing.
My introduction to Living Somatics marked a pivotal moment in my healing journey. The profound insight that "healing cannot fully take place until you are present and whole in yourself, in your body – to be embodied" resonated deeply with me. This realization set me on a path to reconnect with my body and internal experiences, a journey that has been both challenging and profoundly rewarding.
When I first experienced how simple, gentle movements could release years of stored tension and reawaken my body's dormant senses, I knew I had found a missing piece in the healing puzzle. This practice allowed me to reconnect with sensations I had long ago stopped feeling and helped me discover how to regulate my nervous system in ways talk therapy alone couldn't access.
Through somatic practice, I've been able to:
-
Break free from freeze responses that had become my default state
-
Release chronic tension and pain I didn't even realize I was holding
-
Develop better self-regulation and movement control
-
Slow down and appreciate my body's natural limits
-
Reconnect with the joy of simply being in my body
-
Rediscover the innate curiosity and exploratory nature we possess as children
The principles of Living Somatics have provided me with a roadmap for healing and self-discovery. They have taught me to approach movement—and life—with curiosity, gentleness, and awareness, bringing me back to myself and shifting me forever. I am so appreciative that I now have a practice that will accompany me through the rest of my life.
As a certified Living Somatic Movement teacher, I bring both professional expertise and personal experience to my practice. My passion is guiding others who feel disconnected from their bodies toward the same sense of coming home to themselves that I've experienced.
Whether you're dealing with chronic pain, anxiety, hypermobility challenges, or simply a sense of not being fully present in your life, I offer a compassionate space to explore, sense, and transform your relationship with your inner sensing capabilities.
My approach honors the uniqueness of each person's journey while providing practical, gentle techniques that create lasting change. Together, we'll work to reawaken your body's inner senses and help you rediscover the freedom, ease, and joy that comes from truly inhabiting your body.
Let's begin this journey of reconnection together!
